Welcome to Threaded Origins
Hello, and welcome to the first blog post from Threaded Origins! We are America's first nonprofit organization committed to the multiracial experience.
My name is Tyler, and I'm a high schooler from Irondale High School in Minnesota. I founded Threaded Origins because I wasn't seeing people like me, multiracial individuals, being heard, seen, or even thought of in meaningful ways. We're one of the fastest-growing racial groups in America, from 9 million in 2010 to over 33 million in 2020. And yet, we're still being left out of the conversation, out of the data, and out of the support systems.
The multiracial youth of America experience some of the highest rates of race-based harassment, identity crises, and suicide attempts in the United States. Many of us live our lives not feeling like we fit into the boxes that are given to us; being not "enough" of one thing, too much of another.
At Threaded Origins, our goal is to be the leaders for those who "don't belong." Our name chosen, embodies the many threads that weave together to make us who we are, cultural, racial, personal, and the strength that comes from embracing all parts of ourselves. Our mission is simple: to create community, amplify multiracial voices, and defining belonging.
Through upcoming events, blogs, art, and projects, we’ll tell our stories; not the ones written about us, but the ones written by us.
Whether you’re multiracial yourself, know someone who is, or just want to support a future where everyone belongs, you’re in the right place. This is just the beginning.
Thanks for being part of this movement.
Let’s unfold those checkboxes together.
